I always had an interest in medicine. I must have been a healer at some point. I studied medical anthropology and worked in hospitals and research of medicine for many years while doing my BA for 7 years. That is how I paid for my BA: I worked in research all throughout it, although I was just a BA student. (The work study programs in anglo universities of course! A real blessing though it pays little). So for me, medicine was always super interesting. I studied Lock and shell shock history (before the term PTSD was coined). I studied with profs who were doing research with Crees and political empowerment. I did one year translation class Fr-English at U of T while there for a year. I LOVEEEEED university. I went to the two best ones I know of in the eastern side of things: McGill and University of Toronto.
