I have no real memories of my father's side extended family parties on the 31st but I know we celebrated then when I was growing up. Cousins, uncles and aunties, grandparents and us all. It was often too much food and alcohol and super hot so I know I was always nauseous by the end of the evening which could go to the wee hours of the morning. Very much quebecois traditional. It is fun to have been raised a quebecoise. Nice holiday season's traditions especially. Singing or dancing and playing games while there was too much food and booze.
I will listen to La bottine souriante tonight. It is upbeat and fun. Perhaps a fading tradition thes extended families big new year eve's parties? I know my sister does not celebrate with her kids and grandparents on the 31st. Everyone has truly mellowed out with age. I am afraid these big family parties are a thing of the past in quebec....It is a bit nostalgic and sad truly.
