There is no way the manager would have let us jump the cue and take the collie home before we had been approved. 11 applications had been apporved before us and he could not find ours. We got to see the dog at least.
And Billy met him. It was not love at first sight but lots of wimpering on billy's part. We got to see the Sumas valley that got flooded a few years ago: it is a very beautiful area but floods easily. Mountains everywhere around the valley. Very nice and scenic. We did not make it into town so did not go to the used bookstore. Hubby did not want to drive an extra 40 minutes return for the bridal veil falls park nearby. We basically wasted our time but the scenery was something else.
I would have taken Jasper home of course but his intensively high maintenance furcoat is most probably not for me. At least we met him: he did look rather sweet and a nice dog. Billy and him were most interested by each other but were not allowed to play and mostly met through a mesh fence. of course he would have had an amazig time with us I am sure, especially if him and Billy could have gotten close without domination issues. My ONLY refraining from overjoy by him: his intensive high maintenance with brushing and washing required just because of his nice pretty breed.
I dont think I have ever seen a pure bred rough collie in the bc spca shelters in 11 years. certainly not a 3 years old.
* UPDATE*
JASPER HAS BEEN ADOPTED. FAREWELL HANDSOME SENSITIVE A BIT SOULFUL DOG. GLAD WE MET YOU WITH BILLY.
NOW THAT I THINK BACK, HIS FIRST REACTION DID NOT SOUND LIKE HE MOST ENJOYED OTHER DOGS: A BIT ANGRY BARK. AND A FEW GROWLS THROUGH THE FENCE IN FRONT OF BILLY. BUT HE SEEMED VERY OBEDIENT BECAUSE HE FOLLOWED MY VOICE GENTLE SOUND AND TURNED HIS GROWL INTO A WIMPER. HE MAY HAVE BEEN JUST QUITE VOCAL LIKE BILLY IS.
**Thoughts on naming Jasper. I totally would have kept his original name personally: he is through and through Jasper. Not Jean-Pierre (for a laugh), not Kasper. He is JASPER and seems quite holy. I saw the couples I would have given Jasper to: the manager spoke with them for an hour and turned them away. But maybe too much like Jasper's old life ( I think he was from ane elderly lady)? I am totally happy to have driven 1 hour and waited all morning for no reason, even after seeing Jasper. In truth, the way chilliwack kennel work, we spent quite a bit of time with billy and Jasper. Jasper suits him as a name so well. This guy is perfect therapy dog but needs more action pack life now I would say.
