It was much needed sleep.

I coud easily sleep some more but coffee is being made.

Laurel was at the door when I woke up: he ate with great appetite.

I am following the walk for peace, buddhist monks walking 2,300 miles to raise awareness about peace in the states. They have a cute dog: aloka.

I dont understand it but the monks often walk barefeet on pavement....I wonder if they would accept a rich man donation to buy each of them hiking boots.

Walking barefeet on pavement destroys your feet. I have done it when ill.

In the snow. The result was nasty wound on the sole of my feet. These monks need shoes! Wont some rich man buy them the shoes?*

* The monks claim they do have shoes but this crazy self inflicted pain of walking barefeet in the cold and on pavement is their choice- it is their deidcation I beleive they show to their practice. To me, it is rather foolish as even Buddha said the extremes of ascetism h practiced for 7 years were no good way of living in retrospect. More to the point, is that these barefeet monks may get so wounded that they cannot finish the trek. Why suffer unnecessarily? I understand that their devotion is extremely deep. Stll, i find it rather foolish. They are doing what they want to do for buddha faith. Good on them. May they be blessed to never have to quit the trek from lack of walking with good boots. Om shanti om.
